Jackie’s Book Club: Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn

I recently finished reading Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn. Needless is to say that this book is really good and the author developed the story quite nicely.

Sharp Objects is a story of a reporter (Camille) that is send back to her hometown to cover a story of the murder of two young girls. Camille returns to the house she grew up with her strange mother, stepfather and  a half-sister she barely knows. During Camille’s investigation into the murders, she starts unraveling secrets that will have her into the brink of a psychological breakdown.

The characters in this book face issues that are raw and real, that’s probably why I like it. We as human beings are complex by nature and the author brought that complexity very well into the characters and the relationships that surrounds them.

To me this book is a must read. I know there is a show in HBO about it but I haven’t seen it  yet ( I don’t have HBO at home, LOL). I picked up this book randomly at Meijer and I am happy I did. Once I started reading it I couldn’t  put it down. I wanted to know who killed the young girls, and the more I read it, the more doubts I had on who actually did it. The end was unexpected and had a twist that will give you the chills.

The only bad thing I will say about the book is that author could’ve extended a little bit more the unpacking of the truth. I think everything was so fast and it felt rushed. It left me needing more pages to finally understand everything.

As a disclaimer this book is a dark psychological thriller so if you get grossed out easily by gory things or if you can’t handle gory details I will say you should stay away from this book.

Good reads!
